Yoru
夜 — yoru — night
Quiet Japanese nights. Temple lanterns, lacquered courtyards, ink rooftops under low cloud, paper screens lit from within.
v1.0.3 — iPhone — Free with ads, Remove Ads available
A quiet, hand-picked library of OLED-optimized wallpapers. Curated moods, true black, written for the night. No accounts, no clutter, no shouting.
“Yoru” — the Japanese word for night. DarkWalls is designed for the quiet hours, when an interface should whisper, not shout.
§ 01 — Collections
Yoru, Hearth, Moonlit, Abstract, Cosmic — plus Rain & Mist, Silhouettes and more in the Categories tab. The library is hand-curated, never algorithmic, and grows on a slow cadence.
夜 — yoru — night
Quiet Japanese nights. Temple lanterns, lacquered courtyards, ink rooftops under low cloud, paper screens lit from within.
炉 — ro — hearth
Cozy interiors by warm light. Reading corners, kitchen ember, library shelves, the windowed rooms of late evening.
月 — tsuki — moon
Forests and peaks under the night sky. Ridges, frozen lakes, owl-hours in deep wilderness, the long blue of midnight.
形 — katachi — form
Forms and ink at the edge of representation — gradients, shapes, golden orbs against black surface, the geometry of quiet.
宙 — sora — cosmos
Deep-space vistas — nebulae, distant rings, aurora over still water, the long dark between stars.
続 — tsuzuki — to be continued
Rain & Mist, Silhouettes, Sumi-e and Night Sky live inside the Categories tab. New collections land on a slow cadence — hand-picked, never auto-generated.
Catalogue is hand-curated, not algorithmic. Updates ship via App Store and What’s New notes.
§ 02 — Glimpses
Built natively for iPhone — translucent blur, SF Symbols, haptic feedback, photo-library respect.
§ 03 — Field guide
Six small pleasures, no add-on subscriptions, no creep.
Deep ink values that switch OLED pixels off — true black on the wallpaper means real battery savings, sharper contrast everywhere else.
Type a mood — “rain”, “forest”, “purple” — or filter by tag. Up to six recent searches kept locally for quick re-use.
Saves into a dedicated DarkWalls album in Photos. iOS handles the actual “use as wallpaper” step.
Bookmarks live in your phone, not on a server. No login. No sync. Uninstall the app, your data is gone — really.
Long-press the home-screen icon for Favorites, Search, or Random Tonight. Built for one-handed use.
No Sentry, Firebase, Amplitude, Mixpanel — none. The privacy policy is short because there’s little to say.
§ 04 — Remove Ads
A short Rewarded Interstitial appears before each wallpaper save — that’s how the app stays free. Prefer none? A one-time Remove Ads in-app upgrade disables them forever on your Apple ID. No subscription, no tip jar, no upsell. One purchase, restored on every device you sign in to.
Restore at any time via Settings → Restore Purchases inside the app.
Free. iPhone. iOS 15.1 or later.
